Student Lunch Debt, Inc was founded on two simple yet powerful beliefs: EVERY CHILD DESERVES ACCESS TO LUNCH AT SCHOOL & TEACHERS DESERVE SUPPLIES TO TEACH.

In late 2025, the founders of School Lunch Debt, Inc. became aware of a serious and widespread problem: thousands of students across the country are affected by unpaid lunch debt. Children as young as five are sometimes publicly shamed—marked with stamps or wristbands, forced to clean the cafeteria, or given an alternate meal, sometimes just a simple bread-and-cheese sandwich, in front of their peers. In some districts, unpaid lunch accounts can prevent students from attending field trips, school dances, or walking in graduation ceremonies.

Seeing the urgent need for change, School Lunch Debt, Inc. was created to tackle this national issue, help eliminate school lunch debt so children can eat a full nutritious meal and supply teachers with essential classroom resources. Our mission is clear: every child should have access to school meals with dignity, free from worry or shame, and every teacher should not have to worry about being able to properly teach their students.

So School Lunch Debt, Inc.’s Story Began

After establishing School Lunch Debt, Inc. as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Wichita Falls, TX, what began as a small local effort to pay off lunch debt has grown into a movement dedicated to ensuring that no child goes without a meal and helping teachers with supplies. Today, School Lunch Debt, Inc. works tirelessly to identify and eliminate school lunch debt, supporting students across the community and beyond, while also providing teachers with essential classroom supplies to help students succeed.

Committed to its mission, School Lunch Debt, Inc. not only helps clear existing lunch debt but also helps funds reserve accounts to cover meals for children who lack the necessary funds. Through advocacy and awareness, the organization continues to shine a light on childhood food insecurity and drive meaningful change.

Without these contributions, the organization could not continue its mission to keep students lunch debt-free, ensure every child has access to nutritious meals at school, and equip teachers with the supplies they need to create a thriving learning environment.
